Psalms 112:1

Psalms 112:1

Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

Fears the Lord – revere, respect and be in awe of the Lord

When we hold God in a high place of respect in our hearts then we will live in the way that He commands.  His ways lead to true blessings.  They are higher than man’s thinking so we must purposely pursue to know and do them.

Psalms 128:1  A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

God shows mercy to people who fear and respect Him. This mercy will lead us to eternal life and will last forever.  It will even extend to future generations as we teach our children.

Psalms 103:17  But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

The Lord will give us our desires when we fear Him.  Our desires will align with His will when we revere Him.  He also will answer and deliver us as a result of having our hearts set upon Him.

Psalms 145:19  He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

This is a cross-reference of Psalms 103:17.  God will show mercy to those who fear Him.

Luke 1:50  And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

The fear of God will cause us to walk in holiness and purity.  This means to keep ourselves from sin and the things that displease God.  Our goal is to be holy as He is holy.

2 Corinthians 7:1  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

  • Delights greatly in His commandments – incline to, to be pleased with, and to desire wholly in His commandments

Our inner man comes from the Holy Spirit who teaches us the Word of God.  Our desire should be to be filled with the Word of God and to be led by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 7:22  For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

One of God’s promises is to write His Word in our hearts and minds.  As a result, we can develop a relationship with Him.  Blessings come from having a relationship with the Father.

Hebrews 8:10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Blessings come from doing the commandments of God. Our obedience will lead us to eternal life in the kingdom of heaven.

Revelation 22:14  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
