Proverbs 8:34

Proverbs 8:34

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

Hears Him – to hear with attention and obedience

It is important that we separate ourselves to hear what God is saying to us.  This hearing implies allowing His words to go deep in our hearts to bring transformation.

Isaiah 28:23  Give ye ear, and hear my voice hearken, and hear my speech.

The children of God desire to be taught by the Heavenly Father and to obey what He says.

Proverbs 13:1  A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

Jesus said that His family members are those who hear and obey the Word of God.

Luke 8:21  And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

Again Jesus stressed the importance of hearing and doing the Word.

Luke 11:28  But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Jesus is the good shepherd and we are His sheep who follow Him.  We are to hear only His voice and follow it. Strangers are the voices of the world that will lead us astray.

John 10:5  And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

John 10:16  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

John 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Watch daily – to be alert or awake to God on a daily basis

Jesus said that He is coming suddenly like a thief that comes to rob a house, so we must keep ourselves ready for His return.  We must also keep ourselves clean from the ways of the world.

Revelation 16:15  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

We are to be spiritually aware of what is happening in the spirit.  Sleep represents not being conscious of what God is doing. Let us keep our eyes and ears in tune with the Heavenly Father.

1 Thessalonians 5:6  Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

We are in the last days and cannot allow the things of the world to make us oblivious to God and His purposes.  This type of focus is accomplished by being alert and in tune with God through prayer.

1 Peter 4:7  But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Staying in tune will help us not to yield to temptation and to walk in the Spirit.  Prayer builds up our spirit man.  We are able to walk in victory when our spirit is strong.

Matthew 26:41  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Watching and prayer will help us to persevere even in the difficult times.  They will allow us to stand firm in faith until we receive breakthrough over the enemy.

Ephesians 6:18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Wait at the post – to attend/keep/observe at the doorway

The word wait means to be still before the Lord, and then arising to serve Him as a waiter serves a table. We are to give the Lord our full attention and serve Him in obedience as we wait upon Him.  He will give us courage and strength as we focus on Him.

Psalms 27:14  Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

We should yield our mind, will, and emotions to the Lord as we give Him our attention.  We can do this by getting into His Word.

Psalms 130:5  I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

The Lord hides Himself because He wants us to seek Him with all of our hearts.  As we seek and look for Him, He will reveal Himself to us.

Isaiah 8:17  And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

Jesus is the door through which we enter into the blessings of God.  He is the only way so we must draw near to Him with all of our hearts.

John 10:7  Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
